I am giving a 5 minute informative speech next week. I'm passionate about food (who isnt right?) and i was thinking it would be fun to make something in front of the class that we could all eat after. So...i need something that is 'raw' and relatively easy to make that can be thrown together in 5 minutes. Does anyone have any ideas?Food recipe to demonstrate to class?
You could make some wraps. Bring some flour tortillas, smoked turkey or ham or both, maybe a couple different types of cheese, some lettuce, mayo or any type of dressing you think would go well on the wraps you decide to make. Teach them how to put the wraps together, cut them up then serve them when you are done! Just in case you don't know how to make them, here is a recipe you can change to fit what you would like to use as your fillings.
THAI CHICKEN WRAPS
3 chicken breasts
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
4 twelve inch tortilla wraps
Salad:
1/2 seedless english cucumber, peeled, halved lengthwise and thinly sliced on an angle
2 cups fresh bean sprouts
1 cup shredded or thinly chopped carrots
3 scallions, sliced on an angle
12 leaves basil
1 tablespoon sesame seeds
2 teaspoon sugar
2 tablespoon rice win vinegar
a dash of salt, to taste
Peanut Sauce:
1/4 cup chunky peanut butter
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
2 tbsp vegetable oil
Cook chicken breasts in a pan with soy sauce and vegetable oil. Combine all salad ingredients together and season with salt.
Whisk sauce ingredients together, pouring in a stream of vegetable oil.
Heat tortillas (on medium saucepan or in microwave).
Pile sliced chicken and salad into wraps and drizzle liberally with peanut sauce before rolling. Slice in half on an angle and serve.

Shrimp Coctail and have all of the other ingredients pre-cut ... the food section is making me sooooo hungry...........
How elaborate of a recipe? I did homemade whipped cream. Easy and deliciousFood recipe to demonstrate to class?
How about a fruit bowl? And you could use a watermelon for the bowl.
You could make a nice omelette.A 3 egg omelette takes me about 3.5 minutes to make, and the eggs aren't tough. Just blend them before with a little salt and pepper.Add any meat, veggies, and spices you like after the eggs are beaten.
Tip:
If you want to make a bunch before time and just demonstarate one that would be a good idea. That way, everyone gets to taste an omelette and you can be done in 5 minutes or less.Remember that some people are vegetarians so be sure to cook some just veggies,no cheese, etc.
Good luck on your speech.I know this is a strage question but do you by chance attend Everest College in Spfld. MO?Food recipe to demonstrate to class?
When I was in high school, I demonstrated sushi. You can do california rolls and you won't need to use any raw fish.
You can make everything before hand, bring it in a cooler and make it quickly in front of the class. They will be impressed! It is super easy, but looks amazing!
1 medium avocado, peeled, pitted, and sliced into 1/4-inch thick pieces
4 sheets nori
1/2 batch sushi rice, recipe follows
1 small cucumber, peeled, seeded, and cut into matchstick-size pieces
4 krabsticks, torn into pieces
Soy sauce, for serving
Squeeze the lemon juice over the avocado to prevent browning.
Cover a bamboo rolling mat with plastic wrap. Cut nori sheets in half crosswise. Lay 1 sheet of nori, shiny side down, on the plastic covered mat. Wet your fingers with water and spread about 1/2 cup of the rice evenly onto the nori. Sprinkle the rice with sesame seeds. Turn the sheet of nori over so that the rice side is down. Place 1/8 of the cucumber, avocado and crab sticks in the center of the sheet. Grab the edge of the mat closest to you, keeping the fillings in place with your fingers, and roll it into a tight cylinder, using the mat to shape the cylinder. Pull away the mat and set aside. Cover with a damp cloth. Repeat until all of the rice has been used. Cut each roll into 6 pieces. Serve with pickled ginger, wasabi and soy sauce.
Sushi Rice:
2 cups sushi or short grain rice
2 cups water, plus extra for rinsing rice
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon kosher salt
Place the rice into a mixing bowl and cover with cool water. Swirl the rice in the water, pour off and repeat 2 to 3 times or until the water is clear.
Place the rice and 2 cups of water into a medium saucepan and place over high heat. Bring to a boil, uncovered. Once it begins to boil, reduce the heat to the lowest setting and cover. Cook for 15 minutes. Remove from the heat and let stand, covered, for 10 minutes.
Combine the rice vinegar, sugar and salt in a small bowl and heat in the microwave on high for 30 to 45 seconds. Transfer the rice into a large wooden or glass mixing bowl and add the vinegar mixture. Fold thoroughly to combine and coat each grain of rice with the mixture. Allow to cool to room temperature before using to make sushi or sashimi.
Waldorf Salad. Many recipes online and everyone likes it!
30 years ago I had to do the same speech in college. My "How To Make Your Own Yogurt" speech went over well and didn't require a lot of props
Here's how you do it. You figure out how to speechify it
Take two cans of condensed milk and bring it to a boil to sterilize it.
Turn off the heat and pour it into a jar with a lid. Add a tablespoon or two of plain yogurt, thus introducing the culture to the sterilized milk, and seal the jar.
Put the jar inside five paper bags that have been put one inside the other and fold the top over.
After three hours take the jar and chill it.
Add flavoring of your choice
Bring some you made beforehand to share.
A couple of questions...what type of class is it? How many will be there (need an idea of how much you will need to serve)? Can you bring in food that is prepped (pre-cut, etc) and then just assemble it there. Also any catagory you need.....Hors D'oeuvres, snacks, dessert, etc?
Given a 5 min window, I can't see you having the time to do most things already listed here. They seemed to either need heat and/or WAY more than 5 min. Without answers to my questions, here is a simple suggestion or 2. If you can post the answers I might have some better ideas.
Ham/Boursin Rolls;
This is an old party classic. Have the deli slice ham fairly thick (for deli use). Spread with Boursin cheese. Roll. At home you would then pop in the freezer for a few minutes to make cutting more easy. Then cut the roll at a diagonal, so it looks like a pinwheel. Serve with crackers.
This comes to mind as they whip up really fast, are tasty and serve easily.
Fruit kabobs;
Get plastic skewers (like toothpicks just a tiny drop longer). Have assorted fruits, fresh or canned, such as pineapple chunks, pitted or marischino cherries, banana slices, maybe grapes, or whatever. Skewer them, alternating them, if not moist dip in syrup from a can if used, and roll in coconut. Serve alone or cut up pieces of pound cake. My first suggestions would be to serve each piece with a skewer or 2 piercing it as a base. Or you could add as an ingredient on the skewer.
One last idea. Can you finish off something. For example bring in baked cupcakes you made at home, and show different ways to frost/decorate. That would be easy in 5 min. One way would be to fill a zip lock bag w/frosting. In class cut off corner and push out. You will have a swirl that looks sort of like a Dairy Queen cone. Then you could dip others in melted chocolate. Then there is the easy can of whipped cream, and top with sprinkles or some pretty candy topping or just plain candies like small M %26amp; M's.
