thanks :DHome cooked dog food that i can mix while im making food for family?
A lot of people do the chicken cooked with no flavoring. They serve rice with it as well as cooked veggies.
Hope this helps. If nutrition is what your worried about, buy Dinovite. You can add to anything that you feed her. My dogs eat it and it is great for their systems!Home cooked dog food that i can mix while im making food for family?
Here's a good instructional video for home cooked recipe for dogs:

You should use some dog food as you will then know that the dog is getting all the vitamins and minerals he needs. My dog has cancer and is unable to eat dry dog food alone so I make her some homemade to go with it.
I use boiled boneless chicken breasts, rice, a little low salt broth, a little canola oil and a cup of dog kibble. She loves it and is keeping it down. Best of all, no more doggy breath.Home cooked dog food that i can mix while im making food for family?
What I use is whole chicken breast, ground beef chuck, and frozen vegetables (broccoli, peas, carrots...) and simmer it in chicken broth. Just cook it in a big pot, then put it in the fridge. Then give it to him with a dog supplement. The only difference is that I mix it in with her kibble (Halo.) She loves it!!

Question about dog food ingredient?
3 cups of whole wheat flour
3 cups of rolled oats
2 tsp. of bone meal
2 cups of dry milk
3 cups of cooked brown or wild rice
4 raw eggs
1 cup of bacon grease or lard, melted
3 cups of water, broth, gravy, milk, meat juices or meat drippings
1 cup of cooked chopped carrots
1 cup of cooked chopped peas
2 to 4 cups of ground or shredded fat, fish or meat (optional)
Plastic bags
Plastic containers with lids
Okay, this is my dog food recipe that I want to make. The only thing is, what can I replace the lard\bacon fat with that is healthier? What would this ingredient be?Question about dog food ingredient?
I thought at first it was a dog biscuit recipe. I don't understand the whole wheat flour as a dog food ingredient. Oats aren't bad, but shouldn't be the main part of the mixture along with rice. Brown and wild rice are often not digested by dogs and they will sometimes throw it up. Grease and lard, as part of a dog food, are bad for a dog, period. What is ground fat? Sounds very bad. This sounds like a recipe for pancreatitis and possilby other illnesses if this is what you would be feeding your dog. We feed a home cooked diet to our dogs, but the diet is well balanced and varied, no flour in it, no lard or grease. I would not suggest feeding your dog any homemade dog food without getting it approved by your Vet. I know a Vet would not approve this recipe. Not meaning to be critical, it just seems dangerous as a recipe for dog food- something your dog would consistently be eating.Question about dog food ingredient?
I too make my dogs food and based on the size of this batch you don't really need to substitute the bacon grease. The bacon grease give the mixture a scent that your dog will be attracted to, if you remove the grease you take the chance of your dogs not being attracted to the food. It will also help to bind the mixture, if you are still concerned you could sub half with a low fat margarine, Can't believe it's not butter works well. Suggest that if you use broth as your choice of liquid choose one that is low in sodium. Remember to chop, better yet shred the veggies it will make it easier for your dog to digest.
It's crap. It's ALL grains. This is not a healthy diet for a dog.
Bacon grease/lard is not ok for a dog to eat, and too many eggs. Dogs don't need broth, gravy or milk.
Sounds like you've got A LOT of research to do.Question about dog food ingredient?
You have a diet that would do well for a goat instead of a dog and the only ingredient you're worried about is the animal fat? How about replacing the wheat with a meat? Then drop the oats. Dogs do not need grains.
There's like no meat in this ''recipe'' which is what dogs were meant to eat. I would NEVER feed this to my dog and actually my dog wouldn't eat it anyway because she turns her nose up on grain heavy foods.Question about dog food ingredient?
Cooking oil should do the same thing, and has less saturated fat.
Fats are essential to healthy skin and coat.
I would use it because they need fat in their diet

What can I do with half of a raw squash?
It was too big to cook all of it and I had nothing to freeze it all in (used it for baby food). So now I have half an acorn squash sitting here uncooked. Is there a way I can preserve it for 2 days without cooking it? I can make something for our thanksgiving dinner on Sunday. Or a recipe that will keep until then? I don't want it to go to waste. What can I do with half of a raw squash?
Make soup or make mashed or roasted squashWhat can I do with half of a raw squash?
Just put it in a plastic container or a plastic bag and store it in the refrigerator. Take it out on the day you want to use it, and let it come to room temperature. If you haven't already done so, scoop out the seeds and scrape out the strings. Then with your oven heated to 350 degrees, put maybe a generous half tablespoon of butter into the cavity and a scant tablespoon of brown sugar or honey. Give the squash a spritz with a cooking spray like Pam, place it in a small (so the squash just fits in it) Pyrex bowl with a teeny bit of water in the bottom, or a small pie tin, and pop it in the oven, cavity side up. Let it roast for 20 minutes to 1/2 hour, take it out, mush the butter/sugar or butter/honey with the soft, baked meat of the squash, and eat.
I usually plan on 1/2 of a squash per person, and I buy smaller squash. This is delicious, very autumnal and warming, but rich in beta carotene. When I wrot it out, it sounded like a lot of steps, but it is just the easiest thing in the world to make. Sometimes I put a little cinnamon in the cavity as well, and if you have fresh cooked, warm cranberries, you can serve them in the cavity as well, if those flavors appeal to you.
beef mince (can be changed for other meat)
1 onion
1 pepper
2 cloves of garlic
salt and pepper to taste
2 large tabel sponns of tomato puree (heaped)
1 half tin of chopped tomatos (if dry add a full tin)
1 cup of beek stock
1 mozzerela ball (optional)
1 half of cup of feta cheese (optional)
and obviosly sqash!
first scoop out all the insides of the sqash and brown the mince add chopped onion, pepper then 2 crushed garlic clothes (if there only small add 3) add the feta and the tomato puree and chopped tomatos and the stock, leave to simmer on a meduim heat (i would of put a heat but every ones cooker is different!) put the outside of the sqashes in a baking tray and fill with the mixture and top with sliced mozzerela! ( bake on a low het then for about 15 mins!)
you could add the chopped insides of the sqash so they dont go to waste to!
and you could serve with anything really maybe tomato rice and veggies!
good luck xxxxxxWhat can I do with half of a raw squash?
It will cook in the chiller in the fridge.
I always cut off the chunk I need, and trim off all those faces that were cut, remove the skin.
Always remove the seeds though as they can start to go mouldy
Squash roast well with the skin an and if is soft enough the flesh can be scraped of with a knife or fork on the plate
Trina, sure you can girl, just cover the exposed squash with some cling wrap.
Congratulations Trina, my wife and I are proud of you, cooking fresh for your baby, and not some of the muck you buy. What can I do with half of a raw squash?

When they say " no honey for infants", does that refer to raw honey only?
Because I have the book Super Baby Food and there's a recipe for whole wheat bread with honey and there's no mention of waiting until the baby is over a year old to eat it. And What to Expect the First Year says to start giving your baby whole wheat bagels around 8 to 9 months but most wheat bagels have honey in them. So, what's the deal? When they say " no honey for infants", does that refer to raw honey only?
Honey is UnPasturtized so no honey... I actually still haven't given any to my daughter %26amp; she' almost two! I don't wanna risk her getting sick.
If its an ingreadient in the bagel it should be fine... since the bagel is cooked. When they say " no honey for infants", does that refer to raw honey only?
The reason you should avoid honey until 1 year of age is that because of where it comes from it can, on rare occasions, contain botulism (some sort of spore which can cause paralysing). From about 1 year, most people are strong enough and big enough that they can cope, but under that age it's too much of a risk. Cooking with honey doesn't guarantee that any botulism will be killed off so it applies to all things with honey in it.
Hope this helps.
The problem with honey is, that sometimes bacteria causing botulism survive in inactive form in the honey and become active in the baby's digestive track, which is not quite mature enough to suppress these bacteria aka. keep them from becoming active. Once honey is baked or boiled the bacteria are killed. Thus honey as sweetener in bread, bagels and canned preserves is safe. Fresh honey or only lightly warmed honey (like in hot milk with honey) is potentially dangerous. When they say " no honey for infants", does that refer to raw honey only?
If you can find pasteurized honey it might be safe, but I would discuss it with your pediatrician.
Most 8-9 month old babies don't have enough teeth to chew a bagel. I wouldn't give a bagel to a baby that young, even to teethe on. Maybe what the book is referring to is whole grain cereal containing whole wheat.
It means don't give either pastuerized or unpasteurized honey. However, in a cooked recipe, it'd be fine. The concern is that botulism is common in honey (raw, as in straight from the jar). When they say " no honey for infants", does that refer to raw honey only?
it means NO HONEY AT ALL. honey can not only make baby's sick it can kill them. when people write these recipe books they are not children experts and they don't care. they write them to make money by selling them.
all honey, it naturally carries parasites. its good for us adults but when it comes down to children their tummies cannot handle it.
All honey. It can cause infant botulism.
There is some controversy over this. Some experts will say that baked honey has no risk of botulism. Most experts state that while pasteurization, filtering, baking, or processing reduce the risks of botulism it doesn't eliminate the risks -and while the risk is very, very low why risk it at all?
http://www.manukahoneyusa.us/FAQ.htm
Pasteurized honey is a known source of bacterial spores that produce the toxin which can cause infant botulism. It is rare, but this serious form of food poisoning will affect the nervous system of babies and can result in death!
http://www.honeyrunapiaries.com/honey_fa鈥?/a>
DO NOT feed your baby honey. - Honey may contain Clostridium botulinum spores that can cause infant botulism - a rare but serious disease that affects the nervous system of young babies (under one year of age). C. botulinum spores are present throughout the environment and may be found in dust, soil and improperly canned foods. Adults and children over one year of age are routinely exposed to, but not normally affected by, C. botulinum spores. Unlike milk, fruit juices and other foods, pasteurization will not kill these spores because honey cannot be heated hot enough to kill the spores without burning the honey.
http://www.drgreene.com/21_1037.html
Sometimes honey is pasteurized 鈥?usually it is not. Pasteurizing does not reliably destroy botulism spores. Some honey is filtered; some is not. Filtering does not reliably remove botulism spores.
http://www.wisegeek.com/why-shouldnt-inf鈥?/a>
Although honey is a delicious natural sweeter, it should not be fed to infants under one year of age because of the risk of infant botulism. In the United States, most honey products are labeled to indicate this, although the reason why is not spelled out, which confuses some consumers. In addition, the label does not specify that infants should not be fed any honey products, including baked goods with honey in them. Infant botulism is a type of food poisoning that can result in death.

Is it OK to salt & pepper raw chicken before freezing?
Last night I made a recipe that consisted of chicken breasts. After I seasoned them with salt and pepper, I decided to make less of them that I had intended so I food saved a couple and put them in the freezer. Is this OK to do? Sounds like a strange question I know, but In all my years of cooking, I have never done that before. Will the salt affect the meat in any way? Thanks! Is it OK to salt %26amp; pepper raw chicken before freezing?
It's just fine. But keep in mind that the longer you wait to cook it, the more the meat will be 'broken down'. . . This is the effect of 'tenderizing' your chicken. Which you have already done by salting it. The longer you wait to cook it, the more 'mealy' the meat will get. I hope this helps you. Thank you.Is it OK to salt %26amp; pepper raw chicken before freezing?
no it's not okay ..but doesn't hurt if you already done it
it will taste different
Well, salt is a preservative so if anything it seems it should help keep the meat. Besides they are just minerals. I would think they would be fine.Is it OK to salt %26amp; pepper raw chicken before freezing?
Salt actually preserves, so there shouldn't be a problem.
I haven't the faintest idea. But I guess you'll find out eventually. Sounds like an interesting experiment. Is it OK to salt %26amp; pepper raw chicken before freezing?
Salt should be fine, It might dry it a little, but It shouldn't be too bad. Pepper on the other hand, will not cause a problem untill you cook with it. You should never pepper your food untill after it has cooked. Pepper has a VERY low smoke point (The point that it burns) And after reaching that smoke temperature it tastes horrible. The only exception to this would be in soups and stews where it would not get over the boiling point annyway.
It's perfectly safe to season, then freeze your poultry. My husband and I both work long hours. We often cut up meat, chicken, etc. on the weekends. Season it for the dish we plan to make during the week and then just defrost it the morning we're planning to make it. THis way, by the time we get home, all we have to do is cook the chicken (or lamb, or turkey) without the prep work.
it is not an isue as I often season my meat before freezing it..

Need help with recipes?
I'm having skin problems and I've discovered its due to too much acid in my system. There's a suggested diet of no gluten, caffeine, only grapefruit and bananas, and dark green vegetables. I really don't want a raw foods diet and I can't afford to make something separate for myself and for my family. Does anyone know of recipes that will follow my diet and be good for myself as well as my family?Need help with recipes?
It's a pleasure to answer your question! : D
First of all, I'd like to show you this yum recipe I make all the time
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hveo-vwXN鈥?/a> It's a banana milkshake with milk and sugar. But to be more healthy you can use sugar alternatives like honey or date molasses, I used date molasses in my milkshake today xD
Oh, although you dont want raw foods diet, lemme tell you a great discovery I made some time ago. I started having spinach as salad and in my sandwiches, and it tastes just like normal lettuce xD You've gota try that as well.
Here's another one, my dad just squeezed a few oranges and blended it in the blender. It's sooo nice and fresh. I put grapefruit in it as well and its so yum with all the mashed up bits.
I hope you like these ones

If you are going to eat only grapefruit, bananas and dark green vegetables, you won't be getting a healthy diet.
You need to add some protein - fish, chicken, beef, etc. - and some dairy.
It is hard to maintain a gluten free diet because almost everything, except raw, has gluten.

Here's another one, my dad just squeezed a few oranges and blended it in the blender. It's sooo nice and fresh. I put grapefruit in it as well and its so yum with all the mashed up bits.

If you are going to eat only grapefruit, bananas and dark green vegetables, you won't be getting a healthy diet.
You need to add some protein - fish, chicken, beef, etc. - and some dairy.
It is hard to maintain a gluten free diet because almost everything, except raw, has gluten.
