Raw meaty bone, commercial dog food etc. questions?

It was suggested by the breeder that I feed my dogs raw meat including turkey necks.

1st q. where can i find turkey necks?

2nd q. what kind of organ meat is the best choice?

3rdq.i can only offer aturkey neck once amonth.thats because i want them to eat it before their bath.since they use their paws to chew the bones etc. i do not want them tracking any potential bacteria into the house because i have small children and the raw meat risk is not worth them getting sick for a week.

4th. i was thinking of feeding them commerical dog for the morning and making food for the dinner meal.Whatcommericaldog food is best for a large breed dog? one that closely matches raw without actually being raw? they are very large and i dont want to feed too much protein but want to feed enough.

5th. whatare some recipes for homemade dog food?

(space bar is broken, sorry lol)Raw meaty bone, commercial dog food etc. questions?
It won't be the ENTIRE diet, it lacks vitamins and nutrients. But raw turkey necks and chicken necks can be gotten at any grocery store, just ask the guy in the meat department.

Feeding too much liver can cause diarrhea in dogs, go light on that. Lungs don't have much nutrititon. The heart is good, but harder to find. I believe overdoing it on feeding raw kidney can cause diarrhea also. Be slow about giving large amounts of these.

They do have frozen raw diets at most pet supply stores, however salmonella is always a concern. Remember you CAN purchase the 1 lb tubes of raw ground turkey at the grocery store $1.99 each) and thaw and feed that as a supplement.

There are several B.A.R.F. and raw feeding groups on YahooGroups, just do a search over there and sign up with some, all the owners there are feeding their dogs that.

Large breed dogs have a protein warning--too much too early on causes bone/growth problems. I would contact a breeder of large dogs (great danes, st. bernards, etc.) about what to feed till the dog reaches maturity at 2 years of age.Raw meaty bone, commercial dog food etc. questions?
There is NO commercial dog food that is anywhere near raw. They ALL have inferior protein sources, and other ingredients unsuitable for a carnivore (grains, fruits, veggies, etc) Any nutrition they may have started out with is destroyed by being cooked (dog's systems are designed by nature to process RAW, not cooked, food). Dogs need raw meat, bones, and organs. PERIOD. As far as contamination goes, there is more danger on the bottom of your own shoes than in any raw chicken you might feed.

Join the Yahoo groups "raw feeding" and "raw chat". Read the posts, review the archives, and you will learn how safe, easy, and appropriate raw prey-model feeding is. 80% meat, 10% edible bone, 10% organ (5% liver, 5% other organ) is all there is to it.

And for a large breed, raw is NOT too high in protein. Due to it's high water content, raw meat is actually lower in protein than some kibble. It promotes the slow, steady growth that large breed pups need.
