Where do you get protein from on a Raw Food Diet?
I want to start a Raw Food Diet to see if I can feel any benefits from it and to test my willpower. Does anyone know any good sources of protein on a raw food diet? Or any good recipe ideas?
Thank you very much!Where do you get protein from on a Raw Food Diet?
A raw food diet is very good for you, however to just jump into eating nothing but raw can have some grave effects on your body if you are not aware of the pitfalls. Eating nothing but raw food with NO meat, will leave you vitamin B-12 deficient and since it is stored in the liver, it takes some time to see the effects of this. If you will notice, most people eating only raw food look placid and not totally healthy. You need fat and animal fat is what we were designed to eat. The problem is that the typical animal fat you get from grain fed animals is very bad for you. Grain feeding animals is much cheaper and profit is king over health in America. Grass fed dairy cows, for instance, live 4 times longer than grain fed cows. This is because cows are a big fermentation vat and feeding them grains does what it does to people, makes them inflamed and sick, so they give them antibiotics. Those drugs destroy the intestinal bacteria in cows, just like they do in humans and you get bad bacteria fermenting in the "vat" causing the cows to be sick. The fat then runs through the meat (marbling) and that is where the toxins are stored. Yes, it's more tender, but devastates your health. So there is a good arguement for eating raw. The problem is that you need that animal fat to be truly healthy. So, the best thing is to get and only eat GRASS FED ANIMALS, like the primitive people did.
Eating raw food puts a burden on your kidneys and if they are strong, there is no problem, however, if you are like most Americans, your kidneys are NOT strong due to all the toxic build up in your body from eating the SAD diet (standard American diet). So you want those kidneys to be strong or you could create a very serious problem for your health. The best rule of thumb is to eat 50% raw food and the rest cooked, but not cooking it on high heat. I use water to cook grass fed hamburger in a skillet and it works great. That way, the temperature never exceeds a high temperature like you get in using oil.
When cooking a grass fed steak, like New York, cook it for about an hour using 6 brickets and the steak placed to the side of the burning brickets, that way, the temperature is not too high and it cooks very tender and juicy. You only need to heat the outside of a piece of meat because that is where the bacteria are, not the inside, unless it is hamburger where it is all mixed up. The fat from grass fed animals is on the outside of the meat, not in it like grain fed animals. The fat is good for you and contains lots of omega 3 fatty acids and is balanced with more omega 3 than salmon if the grass fed cows are not "finished" before slaughter. The contain lots of CLA, vitamin E and K as well and loaded with minerals that nourish your body.
Protein sources from raw food is generally done by combining foods because each food has some amino acids that others don't and by combining them, you come close to creating a "complete" protein. Many vegans and vegetarians rely on SOY as a complete protein, but when the do this, they get all kins of booby prizes and become less healthy. SOY is not a good food, unless it is fermented and the bacteria get the booby prizes. Soy will cause males to lose 1/2 of their sperm count, make man boobs from the phytoestrogens, and their metabolism will slow down due to the goitrogens in soy. Soy is loaded with the heavy metal, Aluminum that also greatly affects the thyroid gland. In fact, SOY is a nitrogen fixing plant that is good for putting nitrogen into the soil to help other plants grow better, but it also is used to remove the Aluminum and when you eat it, you get the booby prize.
There are some very good books on raw foods that are excellent. A good thing to do is go to a RAW FOOD RESTAURANT and look at their menu and then get a Raw Food Cookbook and get creative.
As part of that process, you will want to eat lots of fermented foods and drinks. Kombucha, homemade kefir from RAW MILK of grass fed cows, sauerkraut, fermented vegetables are all foods that will boost your immune system and help you become more healthy.
EDIT: "Boreus" you are wrong about the amount of protein a person needs because it is relatively easy to calculate. There is an average amount that has been accepted as a general rule that fits most people: 40% carbs, 30% fats, and 30% proteins. The issue is not really the amount of protein, but the "completeness" of the protein. Your body has a "utilization curve" for protein based on the amount of each amino acid combination in a complete protein. Eggs are used as the standard for this. All other proteins are compared to the "curve" found in eggs. A good example of this is the combination of beans and corn. Both of these foods have different amounts of amino acids and when combined, they closely can match what is found in eggs relative to the levels of each amino acid level. So by combining these two items, you get a pretty good complete protein.
A person can get very good complete protein by eating 1 whole egg per day. Eating just the whites is NOT GOOD SCIENCE. It is dumb and being promoted by ignorant people who believe the cholesterol in eggs is bad for you. If you eat just the whites, you create a protein deficiency in your body and are not getting the other 1/2 amino acid compliment found in the yolk. The yolk contains all the minerals as well.
If you eat an amount of protein that your body cannot use, your body converts that protein into saturated fat that feeds your heart and is used in the body in many places. To demonize saturated fat the way it is being done comes from the dogma created by the ego maniac Ancel Keys from his now refuted and totally wrong "lipid hypothesis" that saturated fat somehow causes heart disease.

Raw foodists eat so many nuts (and things made out of nuts, like burgers, sauces, milk and cookies) that lack of protein is not a concern.
Good recipes for a beginner can be found in Jennifer Cornbleet's "Raw Food Made Easy."
In response to a previous answer- tofu and soy sauce are not raw foods.Where do you get protein from on a Raw Food Diet?
Hi Jasmine,
Congrat on deciding to give Raw Food Diet a try!
My best recommendation to you is tofu. I know that lots of people find tofu less than appetizing (though I hope you're not one of them), but that's largely due to the fact that they're not aware of the versatility and history of food creation with soy.
The one recipe I can give you that is simple to make involves using silken tofu:
* Purchase a box of silken tofu from your local supermarket. Carefully remove the tofu from the package, and dice the tofu in half-cubic-inch sizes. Place the tofu on a dish or shallow bowl. Be sure to drain the liquid (no rinsing required).
* Use regular or low-sodium soy sauce (preferably by Kikkoman) and drizzle on top of the dish of tofu to desired amount.
* Chop fresh green onions (scallion) and cilantro (if you like) and sprinkle on top of the tofu.
That's it!
There are literally hundreds of dishes the Asians can create with tofu, ranging from salty dishes, soups, appetizers and even snacks and deserts. They also come in various physical forms, either in original white tofu or fried, puffed, or pressed (not sure if I've named them all). Although not all of them can be eaten raw of course, but the variety and the great flavors they yield may be worth your while to explore!
Good luck with your new diet regime! I hope I helped a little bit.

How is a raw food lifestyle better for the environment?
If you favor raw foods, please offer one of your favorite recipes. How is a raw food lifestyle better for the environment?
Though I am not a raw foodist, I think it is a great way of life, especially if you grow your own food. It is better for the environment because it cuts out all the energy needed for processing, packaging, and cooking (to an extent, I think to be considered raw, it can't be cooked any higher than about 116 degrees F). On a diet like this, you get the full potential and nutritional benefit of the food item and you eat no meat (if you do you are taking a big, reckless chance). Going on a tangent, meat is horrible for the environment considering all the land and water it takes to "grow" the animals, the emissions of methane from all those cows, the waste they create pollutes our oceans and water sources, the transporting all the animals to and from the slaughterhouses, the packaging, the cutting down of rainforest to grow soy just to feed chickens, I could go on....

Because deadly pathogens don't get killed in the cooking process; thus you die and your carbon footprint goes to zero.

I don't like hot food unless it is just very mild should I leave out jalapenos in a recipe?
The recipe seems to have about 5 or 6 pounds of ingredients with 2 jalapenos. I'm not sure if I should put in 1 jalapeno to prevent it being bland or not use them at all. It is a raw food recipe for Peroshkis (to Russians what pizza is to Italians).I don't like hot food unless it is just very mild should I leave out jalapenos in a recipe?
No, it's not the seeds that you have to take out. It's the somewhat whitish ribs inside where the seeds touch the outer skin. Remove everything inside including the seeds, the stalk and its extension inside and the ribs or inner flaps to lessen the intensity. I don't guarantee, however, you'll get the hot completely out.
To make things simpler, simply use red or green sweet bell peppers. There are cultured jalapenos without the fire. Then there are also the altered jalapenos that sting just a little.I don't like hot food unless it is just very mild should I leave out jalapenos in a recipe?

They are quite pricey-about 30 dollars each, but the pictures really inspire you to want to try the recipes. I eat mostly raw, and rely on the internet for alot of recipes.

RAW food diet: Is raw fod very caloric? I'm looking at the recipes and it has alot of nuts and dried fruit?
Isn't it sugery and oily?RAW food diet: Is raw fod very caloric? I'm looking at the recipes and it has alot of nuts and dried fruit?
A raw diet is not all it's cracked up to be. One thing proponents of a raw diet like to say is that raw food is better for your body to absorb. False. Certain nutrients in foods are actually MORE available for yoru body to absorb if the food has been cooked.
As far as calories, you definitely eat less at a time when eating raw veggies/fruits rather htan cooked, b/c of all the bulk and water in them. You also digest them faster. Just do all things in moderation, and inclue some raw foods in your healthy diet, including veggies and nuts.RAW food diet: Is raw fod very caloric? ewww don't eat raw meat!
dried fruit has a lot of sugar per pound, but no more than the fresh fruit it began as. It just weighs less because of the water loss without reducing the sugar.
Nuts have oil, but it's healthful oil, even if highly caloric.
There is no scientifically based reason to eat a raw food diet. Cooking food and increase its healthfulness in some instances, and reduce it in others, but overall is perfectly healthy.RAW food diet: Is raw fod very caloric? I'm looking at the recipes and it has alot of nuts and dried fruit?
Well, eating your food raw automatically excludes a lot of high calorie foods. The only sugars you would get are the natural sugars from the fruit. You can't eat meat, or most dairy products, only fruits and vegetables for the most part. These are all relatively low in calories.
Good luck, and remember to keep your diet balanced.
have you read the studies on raw food diets ? I have and most of the folks to try this diet have died from it . You also look older on this diet . I also saw a special on 20/20 television program and the man was being interviewed was only 8 yrs older than the reporter and he looked old enough to be the reporters grandfather . Please for your own safety dont try this diet . it is extremely dangerous . good luck . do your research always . RAW food diet: Is raw fod very caloric? Good Easy Introduction to Raw Food?
Hey,
So I have been a vegan for a year. Initially I lost a lot of weight, but recently I have been gaining weight due to stress and over-eating. I want to get back down to my initial weight loss of about 145 lbs.
I am not a calorie counter, it drives me nuts.
I've always been interested in Raw food but every time I have tried food has just been too bland for me to continue. I mean, I love spicy food, I need to survive. Couldn't find a lot of spicy raw food recipes that were easy enough to do. I like extreme tastes. Usually people say what I cook for myself is too overloaded with spices and flavors for them.
But I want to give Raw food a try.
Every resource I find on the internet is too wordy (horribly designed websites, they look like books) and not easy to read and understand/implement. Do you know of any good start up information that isn't a chore to research?
If you are raw do you have any tips?Good Easy Introduction to Raw Food?
The best single resource I know of is a book: The Complete Book of Raw Food, Second Edition: Healthy, Delicious Vegetarian Cuisine Made with Living Foods (The Complete Book of Raw Food Series) by Julie Rodwell, Victoria Boutenko, Juliano Brotman, and Nomi Shannon
I bought it on Amazon. In addition to many recipes, it has a lot of advice about things like equipment.
I am vegetarian but do not recommend going totally raw because it does increase your exposure to parasites but that is a personal choice. (You should be aware that neither western medicine or alternative medicine has any viable therapy for dealing with parasites.)Good Easy Introduction to Raw Food?
use raw vegetables such as carrot, lady's finger, etc
you can drink tender coconut (if you are south indian it is called illaneer)
you can drink coconut milk which is made in home by grounding coconut eatable part and filtering.
you should eat lot of greeny leaves (keerai) cooked to get vitamins.
avoid spicy food.
eat lot fruits like apple, orange, grapes,,custard apple, whatever fruits available

Can anybody tell me a recipe for raw dog food?
I don't want a website, I have already looked at all of them. I want to know if anybody can tell me how much of each thing to put in the food.
Eg.
1 cup raw chicken
2 cups vegetables
and so on.
If anybody could help me that would be great, but I'm thinking of mixing it with kibble, so if anybody can tell me how much of kibble and how much raw would be awesome!
ThanksCan anybody tell me a recipe for raw dog food?
75% - 6 ounces (3/4 cup) coarse-ground or chopped meat, raw or cooked. A variety of meats, poultry and fish (organic is better) should be rotated: Beef, Chicken, Lamb, Turkey, Rabbit, Venison and their organ meats. Salmon (no skin) Sardines, Smelt and other whole fish. Ground meat mixes better with the vegetables. Chopped meat is also excellent.
25% - 2 ounces (1/4 cup) ground, mixed vegetables, raw or cooked. Any and all of the following vegetables can be used. The more veggies you combine in one meal the better. Feed what鈥檚 in season. Asparagus, Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage, Carrots, Cauliflower, Celery, Chicory, Green Beans, Greens (at least one of the following per day: Dandelion, Kale, Swiss Chard, Parsley), Kohlrabi, Okra, Parsnips, Peas, Pumpkin, Sprouts, (Alfalfa, Bean, Sunflower), Squash (Winter and Summer), Sweet Potatoes, Yams, Turnips, Rutabagas.
Optional Ingredients: Whole eggs (including shell) Alfalfa, Kelp, Barley or Wheat Grass, Garlic, Chlorella, Spirulina, Apples, Pears, Bananas, Parsley, Nettles, Walnuts, Almonds, Sunflower seeds. 2 ounces (1/4 cup) purified water (especially if you are going to freeze. Can anybody tell me a recipe for raw dog food?

Raw Food Diet!?
hi,does anybody know any quick and chep raw food recipes. i have a blender, juicer and the magic bullet. and i have like common fruits and vegetables, apples, oranges, bannas and tomatos and lettuce and carrots, nothing special. we don't have money to get all the things needed for a raw diet, but we're working with what we have. i need somethings i can do for dinner, and then some stuff i can do before i walk out the door to go to the bus stop, i'm mostly a fruit person, but any raw diet recipes are greatly needed!
and if u guys have any ideas about shakes. thanks you guys!Raw Food Diet!?
Here is a link to a site that has tons of info and a good recipe section.
http://phmiracleliving.com/
Lettuce roll-ups are convenient and portable: just roll shredded any kind of veggies up in a lettuce leaf. You can add some softer veggies like avocado or pureed tomatoes, etc. or you can just have crunchy shredded veggies. My favorite raw breakfast is just apples chopped up in a bowl with some raw walnuts or any kind of nut or seed, and with some honey or maple syrup or juice added to sweeten and moisten it.
Good Luck!Raw Food Diet!?

Grrr Raw Food Diet . . .?
so i am trying to eat healthier, %26amp; i think the raw food diet is right for me, but the thing is i still live with my parents [ im a teen ] %26amp; they dont support me at all.
The only thing i can eat [ that i kno of ] in this house is salad, pistachios [ maybe. . i have to check to see if they are roasted or anything like that ], tangerines, %26amp; bananas.
Does anyone have any easy to make raw food recipes or at least some food ideas next time we go to the grocery store?Grrr Raw Food Diet . . .?
Carrots
oranges
broccoli
cabbage
mushrooms
onions
sugar snap peas (my fave for snacking)
cantalope
strawberries
onions
green onion or scallions
jicama
nuts
You could make coleslaw, fruit salad or just munch on any or all of the above. Just browse through the veggie section and just get enough to eat so that nothing goes bad. Good luck.Grrr Raw Food Diet . . .?
A pack of dried fruit is good, tasty, and full of, well, fruit. It is a little expensive, but it is worth it. Just for an idea, it includes banana chips, dried cherries, and other dried fruits. It kind of depends on the area. But some others are more trail-mix type, and also have nuts and the occasional candy piece (m%26amp;ms, mini chocolate chips, mini reeses pieces, etc.).Grrr Raw Food Diet . . .?
Well, as a teen that doesn't have parental support, it's going to be a very hard lifestyle change if you don't have a job. So, I definitely encourage you to try to talk to your parents about why you feel that this is a healthy diet, and maybe go with some research to back you up.
As long as you have fresh fruits and vegetables in the house it will be easy to find something raw to eat. But the thing that may get to you is not having enough variety and nutrients. And if you change your diet in this manner without your parents support, if you get sick they will probably use that as proof to you that the whole raw idea is bad. Instead of your limited food selection. So, with that said, try out the recipes on these websites. The smoothies are an especially yummy way to get your nutrients in.

I have a GREAT place that I order my cat's raw diet from. felinespride.com they ship it out to you frozen. It is very $$$$ though and with 7 cats, you may want to learn to make your own.

Theres also a company that makes an additive to add to ground chicken, or beef. You just buy the meat and liver, mix it together, and its good to go. The website is: http://www.felinefuture.com/
Edited to add: Raw food can be frozen - I'm not sure for how long.
I agree that all of the pet food recalls have made feeding commercial food to our furbabies very scary. Here are two links with more information about feeding raw.

http://cats.about.com/cs/nutrition/a/raw鈥?/a>
Cats are obligate carnivores which means that they have no dietary requirement for anything (including vegetables) other than meat. However, when a cat would eat meat in the wild they would also consume the hair or feathers, skin, and pieces of bone which contains minerals that are essential to your cats good health. If at all possible try to find a local butcher that will grind the chicken whole. Many specialty butchers will do this for you and it is not very expensive. If you can't find one in your area it is very important that you put a vitamin supplement that contains taurine in the meat mixture that you use. Kitty Bloom makes a great one that is specifically formulated to fortify a raw diet. It is available for sale at

There are also several raw food preparation and handling guidelines that must be followed to make sure that you don't make your kitties and yourself sick from salmonella. They are described in detail on the first link I posted.RAW FOOD recipe/website for cats??

Dr Oz. 28-day raw food diet?
I was thinking about trying Dr. Oz's 28-day raw food diet. Has anyone ever tried a diet like this before? What should I expect? Are there any good sites that have raw food recipes?Dr Oz. 28-day raw food diet?
I haven't tried it, but I recently went vegetarian and eat lots of raw. The first week was kind of hard and I was tired but after that I got more energy than EVER! :) http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/home.asp is a good website for recipes. it has reviews and you can use the search tool too find certain things. Also, I use sparkpeople.com to count my calories and track my goals and stuff. It's free. I sound like a commercial or something but it's really helped me get healthy. Good luck to you!Dr Oz. 28-day raw food diet?
Actually, you don't have to diet per se to lose weight, I learned this at the site in the box below, they have loads of instruction, I melted away 6 pounds by doing as they advised.

Raw food diet book suggestion?
ive been trying some raw food recipes. I am so not impressed! I need more flavor. I am doing this for health and weight. I have about 45 lbs to lose. The health aspect is the pain i have all along the left side of my body as well as digestion. I had done the raw diet before and felt great. why i didnt stick with it is probably weakness. But the pain and headaches subsided, my digestion went back to normal and I lost 10 lbs in 3 days. Now that the pain is back, i ofcourse want to try again. My pain is almost gone. I lost 6 lbs and my digestion is awesome. As I am exploring more raw food to keep it interesting i am having a hardtime finding tasty recipes. are there different degrees of raw food recipes? semi raw, semi vegan, semi vegetarian? Now that I am 4 days in, store bread smells nasty and tastes nasty, boxed food just has the nastiest smell. So i dont think there is going to be any going back to "store bought" food anytime. 28-day raw food diet - help?
I was thinking about trying Dr. Oz's 28-day raw food diet. Has anyone ever tried a diet like this before? What should I expect? Are there any good sites that have raw food recipes?28-day raw food diet - help?
http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2008/01鈥?/a>
This website chronicles 30 days of raw eating including pictures and descriptions of everything he has eaten. His site also has other links about raw and recipes including a scrumptious looking blueberry pie recipe that I can't seem to be able to find now. Good luck.28-day raw food diet - help?
If you wanna be really active go 80 10 10 low fat raw vegan, you need glucose to fuel your muscles, glucose is in simple sugars found in sweet ripe fruits. If you eat a breakfast of 10-15 banana's you'll get 1000-1200 calories to fuel your workouts plus you won't get weighed down from having to digest all that fat and protein. Don't get afraid to get all your calories in, on average the chinese eat 2500 calories and we get on average 2000 yet we are overweight!!! Maybe we are doing something wrong?!? Eat sweet juicy fruits and greens and you'll have all the nutrients you need to fuel work outs. Use cron-o-meter to track your vitamin and nutrients intake and you'll find you'll meet every vitamin and mineral that you need (except vitamin D but your body can make enough of that if you go outside in the sun).
I would also advise against making nuts and seeds your staple and only use them sparingly and instead eat a TON of fruit.
I recommend two books
Thrive by Brendan Brazier - not 100% raw but he is very close I would say 80%+ of what he eats is raw.
80 10 10 by Douglas Graham
Don't get sucked into the hype about the high fat diet with alot of overt fats and espically stay away from stimulants and superfoods that alot of raw "guru's" will try to sell you on. Brendian Brazier talks about stimulates and while in the short term they are good for a boost, but you end up having to pay for it in the long run!! Don't get sucked into the new age superfood movement that is really prevalent in the raw community, who needs superfoods when you have banana's, mango's, celery, dates, raisins, avocado's, lettuce, apples, cabbage, ect.... All of those together in enough quantities is more than enough to meet you daily requirements of all you vitamins and minerals!!
I eat very simply since going 80 10 10 basically a day is somewhat like this.
Morning 8-10 oranges about 700-800 calories
Lunch 10-12 banana's about 1000-1200 calories
Dinner 2 pounds of lettuce with 4-5 tomatoes, 2 mango's and avocado about 600-700 calories
Snacks Raisins, dates and some walnuts (usually 2 snacks a day for about 200-400 calories each).
If you don't get you calories in they you will either start binging on sweet foods or go back to cooked foods, also if you have issues with anorexia you might get scared at first at the amount of volume of food that you need to consume on a daily basis to really thrive on this diet. Also since fruit has alot of fiber you won't see spikes in your blood sugar since fiber works to slow the release of sugar into your blood stream.

I try to get in about 3000-3500 calories a day, more if I am working out heavily. I am 5'8" about 145-150 pounds (male) and I've been at this for 4 years now 100% raw.

If you ate a really unhealthy diet, expect to feel some withdrawal(headache, fatigue, etc) But after about a week you will probably feel better than you have EVER felt! Good luck~~28-day raw food diet - help?
I was thinking about trying it out as well but the name of the challenge is somewhat misleading. There is only one week where you actually eat 100% raw. Google raw food recipes..there are tons of them like shredded zucchini with a raw tomato sauce and guacamole etc.

Website that generates food recipes based on kitchen contents?
There is a website out there that I came across on Digg.com that has a huge list of raw food items that you can select of which items you currently have available in your kitchen, then it will search through a database of recipes and let you know of all the items you are able to createWebsite that generates food recipes based on kitchen contents?

What does "Stoned" mean in refrence to food in the UK?
I am looking at some raw food recipes from the UK,and it mentions the term stoned. What does it mean? What does "Stoned" mean in refrence to food in the UK?
If you are looking at a recipie with cherries or dates for example, it means that the stones are to be removed.
Thats what we say when we remove the stones? What do you say? What does "Stoned" mean in refrence to food in the UK?
I believe the term stoned means that the food has had its pits removed. What does "Stoned" mean in refrence to food in the UK?
It means that the pips, seeds or stones have been taken out: stoned raisins, stoned prunes, stoned cherries, stoned plums, stoned olives etc etc.
All the best.

Raw food diet????
Does anyone have any raw food recipes???? Are there other things to eat besides just plain fruits and vegetables????Raw food diet????
oh, sure there is a ton of stuff. I eat an 80/10/10 diet of 80 percent raw, 10 percent lightly cooked, and 10 percent cooked. I am pescatarian, which means I do eat fish, but no meat. You can be on a basically raw diet, but still have your treats. I also consume lots of raw milk, cheese, and butter (raw milk is usually available through a food co op or local dairy) You can make wonderful homemade sprouts (super easy using a Kitchen Crop sprouter) fresh sprouts in two days from radish, mung, fenungreek, alfalfa, clover, green pea, yellow pea, lentil, etc. You can also make gourmet raw pates, spreads, cheeses, seeds. You can make raw lasagna and spagetti. Google raw foods and see all the good sites. Also, there are some great raw groups on yahoo. I actually enjoy my raw food more than I ever did cooked, and its so much easier to digest. You can read more on my blog if you like, or email me. Good luck! Main thing is to not go radical and assume you have to eat ALL raw. All things in moderation. The raw diet is really alot of fun. My 12 year old is mostly raw too. Here is a link for my blog

I have a "cook" book of raw food recipes. It's called "Dining in the Raw" by Rita Romano. I got it at my local health food store. There are a lot of interesting recipes. It's best to take it slow, because there is a lot to learn about that type of "cooking" a lot of ingredients that I'm not familiar with and a lot of equipment that you need in order to make many of the recipes. You can start by adding some raw food recipes to your normal diet and slowly replace things as you learn and get used to things and find good recipes that you like. But there are many good recipes that taste great and don't feel like you are just eating fruits and salads all the time.

Raw Food: Good snack recipes?
^^
Well, I've been a raw foodist (if that's what you call it) for a couple of days now and it's been going good. But I've been having MAJOR snack urges, and don't wanna give up my streak. Any good easy sacks to make that don't require anything drastic like overnight freezing or a juicer? Plus I have to make everything myself because my parents don't support my decision. And please don't suggest getting an uncook book, I'm working on that. lol Or if you can find any links that'd be great! Thx! :]%26lt;3Raw Food: Good snack recipes?

If you a still growing I have to support your parents decision its important to not just eat raw foods because there are life long side effects; and no-offense after the big salmonellae scares that's been on the news every night from a month, I think you should consider it too.
Vegetable's can carry salmonella and the first time you get food poisoning you will understand that raw food diets are just a trend, and some of the information they are providing is just plain bull hockey about the benefits.
If you don't believe me read about the pistachio salmonella scare, or the peanut scare a month before or the tomato scare last year, people just aren't being safe with food anymore so raw food can have the potential to kill you just as much as that "oh mighty hamburger".
Also consider that unless you can find good proteins and carbohydrates you are going to get sick, its not a maybe its a question of when,
Your parents are only concerned about you so listen to them, a raw food diet is just a diet life is about variety not sacrifices so don't buy into the raw food mania.

What is your favorite raw food recipe?
Just starting and need some yummy ideas :)What is your favorite raw food recipe?
When you have time to go all out:
Lasagna
NOTES
This recipe is best made one day in advance. This works well with a pan that measures 9.5" X 13" X 2"-(3 quarts) {metric measure: 240 X 345 X 50mm (3 litres)} which will serve 8-10 but pan size is not important- use any size pan you have, this is just a guideline.
INGREDIENTS
5-6 zucchini
3-4 Cups coarsely chopped Mushrooms (or, thinly slice portobellas or baby bellas)
6 Cups Spinach, packed, then roughly chopped
"Cheese" 4 Cups Sunflower p芒t茅 (see recipe below) -made with less garlic, onion and lemon so it is bland. Use water in place of 1/2 of the lemon juice.
Marinara Sauce
cheesecloth (all cotton for culinary use)
DIRECTIONS
Thinly slice the zucchini the long way. This can be done by hand or witha mandolin. Marinate for 1-2 hours in a mixture of olive oil, water and lemon juice. You will need enough slices to completely cover the bottom of the pan two times. (you can marinate longer if you want)
Place a double layer of cheesecloth in the pan, with at least 6 inches of cheesecloth hanging out on all sides.
Assemble the lasagne
Pat dry the marinated zucchini slices. Fit closely together enough slices to completely cover the bottom of the pan-Don't forget to lay the cheesecloth down first, it is important.
Pour over a small amount of the marinara sauce and spread over the zucchinis (see recipe for Marinara below)
Spread out a layer of mushrooms, (use 1/2 the mushrooms)
Spread a thin layer of p芒t茅 over the mushrooms (use 1/2 the p芒t茅) (it's ok to leave it in evenly spaced blobs it is difficult to spread)
Evenly place half of the chopped spinach over the p芒t茅 and press firmly into place
REPEAT THE STEPS
Zucchini slices
1/2 of the remaining marinara sauce
the remaining mushrooms
the remaining p芒t茅
the remaining spinach-press in to the p芒t茅
The remaining marinara- you can also add some chopped tomato and slivered basil to the top
Cover tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate.
SERVING THE LASAGNE
The vegetables and p芒t茅 will have given off a great deal of liquid overnight in the refrigerator. Using the ends of the cheesecloth, carefully lift out the lasagne (it may take 2 people). Drain the lasagne for a few moments (hold it up and allow to drip or run your hand over the bottom)-then either place it in a new pan or have someone quickly pour off the liquid and dry the pan and put the lasagne back in.
Slice and Serve.

Drain the lasagne for a few moments (hold it up and allow to drip or run your hand over the bottom)-then either place it in a new pan or have someone quickly pour off the liquid and dry the pan and put the lasagne back in.
Slice and Serve.

Dog food recipes?
i am making homemade food for my dogs now because kibble just doesnt suit them and their sensitive stomachs...so could you please give me a few recipes that have things like chicken in them? and i dont want any raw food recipes, please :)Dog food recipes?
I feed my dogs home-made too and when you do, you need to make very, very sure your dogs are getting a balanced diet complete with all the vitamins and minerals they need. That's why I really recommend you get Dr. Pitcairn's book "Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats". It's got complete recipes for meals, as well as all the additives they need and what they do.
In addition to food, it's also got lots of other info like holistic and alternative therapies, caring for a sick pet, creating a healthy environment, helping your dog make the switch to a natural diet, and much more. The book's a great investment.Dog food recipes?
If my dogs have an upset tummy, I will make them rice with chicken or beef boilion in it with the water while its cooking so it has a good taste. I feed my dogs Nurtomax and Iams, they also have senstive stomaches and they love the food with no issues. Good luck!
I have 2 options for you, #1 you can switch the dog food to Royal Canin for sensitive stomachs I give this to my poms and it works very well, or the other thing is this
use White chicken only, dark meat has to much grease bake until done debone all meat and cook white rice use a bag of mixed frozen veggies ( peas carrots green beans) NO CORN ists to hard to digest, mix 1 part chicken and 1/2 part rice and 1/4 part veggie, use no salt pepper or seasonings, a small amount of garlic power will be ok but dont over do itDog food recipes?
Check out web sites below!
Sorry I don't know any but remember to get a vitamin for them at the vet's or a good pet store since the kibble comes with supplements you have to add your own and cook with a little oil too.Dog food recipes?
Boiled chicken or ground beef, white rice, green beans, carrots, peas, mac %26amp; cheese, plain yogurt, cottage cheese, scrambled egg ( no butter). Not a recipe but some things your vet would probably recommend, along with a good multi vitamin. No corn or gassy veggies.

Can I dehydrate foods without a food dehydrator?
I've been looking at raw food recipes, and there are a lot of dehydrated foods that look delicious! However, I don't have the money or the will to go out and buy a food dehydrator right now. Is there any way through the oven and/or sun that I can dehydrate my foods?
Thanks! Can I dehydrate foods without a food dehydrator?
Put the oven on the lowest setting (mine has a "warm" setting that is 170 or 180 degrees.) Keep the oven door partway open to keep the heat down. Can I dehydrate foods without a food dehydrator?
oven on lowest temperature works OK.
Alton Brown states you should use a box fan, and a couple cellulose-based home heater filters, and stack the food in the grooves, and strap it on the blower side, then stick it out a window and turn it on... cool dry is always better for dehydrating that warm dry.
finally there is the sun dried method, if you have a clean, dry, well ventilated area with constant sun exposure. Can I dehydrate foods without a food dehydrator?
yes.. use a non stick cookie sheet, or any baking sheet with parchment paper on it.. lightly spray with Pam (very slightly)
and lay out very thin layers of fruit or veggies (like tomato slices) you want to dehydrate and put in oven on warmest heat overnight...
I make dried tomatoes, apple slices and even beef jerky this way....

Is it bad to eat a lot of raw nuts on the raw food diet?
I'm going to start the raw food diet on new years and was wondering how much is too much nuts? A lot of my recipes are for raw desserts or raw fruit based recipes so they call for nuts in almost every recipe. I want to lose weight that's why I'm doing this diet but would I lose weight if I consumed nuts all day since they're high in healthy fat, but still fat? Thanx. Is it bad to eat a lot of raw nuts on the raw food diet?
EVERYTHING in moderation! Is it bad to eat a lot of raw nuts on the raw food diet?
I tried eating raw vegan for awhile, but I did it improperly by consuming too many raw nuts, and it was bad for my digestion and made me feel bad accordingly. Eat a majority of fruits, greens, and vegetables and a minority of nuts and seeds--that's what works best for me. A green smoothie is good for filling you up.Is it bad to eat a lot of raw nuts on the raw food diet?
Hello
Yes, and above all its not normal to eat so many nuts. Instead, think of what a horse, giraffe, elephant eats - they eat plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs etc.Is it bad to eat a lot of raw nuts on the raw food diet?

Nuts are great in moderation but I don't think you're meant to eat more than about a small handful in a day.

Why don't any of the raw food cookbooks or recipe sites have many main meals?
There are heaps of desserts, entrees, soups, dips, crackers etc but hardly any "main meals".
Why is this? This is the most important type of meal.
Where can I find some raw food main meals. Why don't any of the raw food cookbooks or recipe sites have many main meals?

Wow, people are being really mean to you. There's nothing wrong with sharing a little information. I'm starting to think that we DO need a healthy eating section.
I agree that you feel a lot better eating that way, but I just can't stay out of Maggie Mudd. Neither can I leave the curly fries alone, or the popcorn or the reese's cereal....basically if it's not hurting an animal I'll eat it, despite the hydrogenated oils and all that other bad stuff.Do you want to know why you should eat a raw plant food diet?
Thank you for the best answer :)
@ Jackie: lol, welcome to California. I thought almost everyone was rude here at first too - you get used to it.
Hi there
I loved this answer, it was really informative. Have you tried raw chocolate too? Can you tell me what effect it had on you?
All that is the truth. The FACT that it's been so for me, is the "scientific proof". It's sad that it makes people feel bad, and thus, hostile.
None of this is based on sound scientific, medical and nutritional principles. I am a former vegetarian. A dietary nurse frowned down on the idea at the time. Low iron levels along with low calcium, protein, vitamin D and B12.Do you want to know why you should eat a raw plant food diet?
What a total waste of time and space that was.
Not for nothing..but this is not a question. In the future..so you don't get slammed by trolls and others who don't share your beliefs... answer any questions about raw food..but don't make people scroll this much to read your answer.
someday i would like to become a raw fooder.
but right now, i'm working on veganism.
Off the top of my head, no.
Wonderful! Keep this a secret, we don't want everyone to find out!
Is there question in there somewhere?
To =^_^=
I was in Maggie Mudd for the first time last week on a trip to California from Michigan and was repulsed by how rude the girl working there was. I can't even put it into words. We ordered nicely, were kind and everything and her attitude was absolutely disgusting. She was so mean.
I shared with someone a small blueberry ice cream and a small cookies %26amp; cream. personally, I find that Maggie Mudd is very watery and not creamy. . .doesn't have the familiar texture of real ice cream like Soy Dream or Rice Dream does. Not that I'll ever visit Maggie Mudd again anyway, but I think I'll stick to the more creamy types. . .
What's your favorite there, anyway?
Hmmm...cow medium rare....tops your 101 reasons to eat weeds.
No, I don't really want to know. Meat tastes good.
get off your soapbox and stop telling others what to do
who do you think you are?
i need scientific proof that all 101 of these are true, and i will no longer consider you a crackpot
this is why omnivores can't stand vegans/vegetarians...you just can't help preaching about how much better you think you are than everyone else...
what if i want to drink alcohol?
what if i don't want to sprout?
what if i can stay up all night anyway?
thanks for the 2 points

Do you want to know why you should eat a raw plant food diet?

To =^_^=
I was in Maggie Mudd for the first time last week on a trip to California from Michigan and was repulsed by how rude the girl working there was.
Meat tastes good.
get off your soapbox and stop telling others what to do
who do you think you are?
i need scientific proof that all 101 of these are true, and i will no longer consider you a crackpot
this is why omnivores can't stand vegans/vegetarians...you just can't help preaching about how much better you think you are than everyone else...
what if i want to drink alcohol?
what if i don't want to sprout?
what if i can stay up all night anyway?
thanks for the 2 points

also, i'm not comfortable with handing them a bone to chew on, any alternatives to that?

or is raw chicken, beef, fish, ect and sweet potatoes, carrots, ect. really all they need?
any recipe suggestions?RAW food diet: i'm putting my dogs on raw food diet and looking for recipes?
There are no recipes when doing a raw food diet. You feed 80% organ meat 10% bone and 10% liver and other organs.
No supplements, no vitamins, no veggies needed.RAW food diet: i'm putting my dogs on raw food diet and looking for recipes?
Don't be fooled by all the hype raw food is great i would boil any meat about 1 to 2 Min's. also boil or steam veggies dogs cant digest the raw form. oils are important too so fish or olive oil can be added 2 times a week. steamed broccoli has been reported to prevent cancers in dogs. scrambled eggs are great for the coat as well as a good source of Protine. carrots, peas, andstring-beanss are full ofvitaminss. if your feeding your pup all this, vitaminss are not needed. in myexperiencee dogs are more active, happy, and tend not to get sick as much as a dog on a all kibble diet.

But basically you can feed almost any meat... beef ribs, chicken thighs, brisket, some fish (though there are steps for this.. like freezing it before feeding it, etc.) and other things. Some people add in fruits/veggies, some don't. Many use supplements as well. Here is a great starter recipe and they need the bones for calcium and minerals along with the marrow inside the bone.
Chicken backs, chicken liver that equals 3% of their body weight. Dogs are carnivores they do not need that other stuff.

Best Raw Food Recipe Blogs?
I've been a vegan for a while now, but I'd like to make raw foods more central to my diet. I try to eat all my snacks and one meal or so a day raw (or high raw; I'm not especially strict), and so far I feel great!
The problem is: I'm getting a bit sick of the same old smoothies, salads, and homemade Larabars though and would like to follow some new raw food blogs to get inspiration.
I already follow ChoosingRaw.com and Rawmazing.com.
I don't own a juicer or dehydrator as of right now, so the simpler recipes the better!
Any suggestions?

I am considering the raw food diet for my 5 year old Lab. I need tips and recipes.?
Does anyone know a good way to transition into this? I also am a bit worried about serving him raw chicken due to salmonella. Can dogs get it? Any recipes that you suggest would be great too. Thank you in advance.I am considering the raw food diet for my 5 year old Lab. I need tips and recipes.?
The recipe (*not to be followed daily though it can be, the goal is to balance over 1 - 2 weeks) is really just 80% meat (half red meat is nutritionally a good goal), 10% bone (covered by meat), 5% liver, and 5% other organs (any mix)
Salmonella probably has a better chance being found in your cereal, tomatoes or kibble than causing harm in your dog from eating raw chicken!

Dogs can get salmonella from anything, including and most often commercial kibble, but dogs have a totally different digestive structure and therefore VERY rarely would they succomb to salmonella. Dogs are naturally scavengers and will gleefully eat soil, faeces, buried bones and decaying carcasses given half a chance, with no problem providing they are normal and healthy.
I am giving you some good links on raw feeding information. Join an email list, get a book or two, research and happy hunting !

Be prepared for lots of negative comments from those that have not researched natural feeding and are yet misinformed.I am considering the raw food diet for my 5 year old Lab. I need tips and recipes.?
http://www.barfworld.com/ has pretty much everything you need to know.
salmonella is totally not a concern: it's not something they get from meat left lying around. salmonella is found on meat or eggs from sick birds - a bird infected with salmonella is *sick* and looks sick. otherwise, we'd be dropping like flies from it.
food poisoning in dogs is very rare - their stomach acid is much more powerful than ours. human stomach acid has a pH of about 5 while dog's stomach acid is more like a pH of 1 or 2 - when you figure human stomach acid can damage steel...!
bones are also not a concern as long as they're raw - dog's more likely to choke on kibble, statistically speaking. i've fed three dogs raw food diet and not one episode of choking - chicken bones, deer, moose, beef, goat, pork, beaver, you name it. no problem.art games

Question for raw food enthusiasts?
Can you suggest a few raw food recipes (or a site where I can find some) that do not include rare or difficult-to-find ingredients? I live in an area where the grocery store selection is pretty standard. Thanks!Question for raw food enthusiasts?
When I serve raw fruits and vegetables I usually make them into a salad and serve them with my favorite dressing. A variety of raw vegetables, cucumbers, peppers, carrots, celery, can be served with a variety of pasta's. Fruit can be served made in jell-o or with a whipped cream dressing.
This is a sight which has recipes which you purchase. Sounds interesting.

Hi everyone, within the last few weeks I have been researching natural cures, detoxing, and raw foods. From what I have seen it is an extremely healthy way to live. I am going to "ween" myself off cooked foods and am looking for a good way to start into raw foods. As well as recipes I could try. I am going to try to start off with some simple ones. :)

Is it safe to feed my dogs/cats a raw food diet, and does anyone have any simple recipes?

Yes, it is safe and if you do it right it is very healthy. All of my dogs are on a raw diet- as well as my cat :) Here are some links to get you started:

And this is a great yahoo group. The people there can get you started and answer all of your questions.

Well dogs I am not sure, but if you were to give your cat raw food it would be the best thing you could ever do. Raw food is what cats naturally eat so there is no reason for you not to feed kitty raw food and keep it on a raw food diet. There are premium raw cat foods out there. The meat doesn't come full of bacteria so you know that what your kitty is eating is healthy. Take a look at this link
http://search.onlynaturalpet.com/search.鈥?/a>
Now, if you do not want to buy it online you could just prepare great recipes for them. I have never fed my cat raw foods so I woulnd't know; but you're on the right track with this idea.
Cats do best on a raw food diet, but it needs to be done safely. Raw food will can cause food poisoning, and you might not want to do raw food if you have small children who can get into it.
As for recipes, http://www.catinfo.org/makingcatfood.htm
the website above is from a vet, and has some very good information on homemade, raw cat food. It also lists some cat food brands that are good, but not as good as homemade.
Also, if you are unsure of raw food, and the additives needed to make it properly, I would suggest using a product called
InstinctsTC from Feline Future, all you do is provide the ground meat, and the rest of the ingredients are pre-mixed to make it nutritionally correct - http://www.felinefuture.com/Is it safe to feed my dogs/cats a raw food diet, and does anyone have any simple recipes?
Most super markets stock raw cat\dog mince that is safe for animals and you don't have to do any cooking.
Absolutely! Raw diets are very good for pets, much better than processed commercial foods.
Here is what my family does:
1 package of meat (chicken, beef, or turkey, ground or cubed)
1-2 eggs (whole, shells and all)
1/4 cup chicken livers/gizzards/hearts (or beef liver/heart)
1/2 cup fish (salmon, sardines, tilapia, mackerel; raw or canned)
(These next ingredients are optional, some people prefer to do just meat, while others prefer to add some dairy/vegetable/fruit ingredients as well)
2 tbsp canned pumpkin
1 tbsp peas or carrots
1 tbsp apples or blueberries
4oz (1 single serving container) plain yogurt or cottage cheese
Supplements (also optional)
1 tbsp Bone meal powder
1 tsp calcium powder
1 tbsp fish oil
1 tbsp multivitamin powder for dogs
You can either chop it into chunks and blend it like a dry stew, or put everything through the food processor and make mush. Any of the ingredients can be lightly cooked if you prefer, but raw is always preferable as far as nutrition goes. The great thing is you can change the recipe however you'd like, add things, subtract things, etc. We change it up a little each time for variety. You can use ANY type of meat you can find, as long as it's fit for human consumption- lamb, veal, mutton, duck, pheasant, rabbit, venison, etc.
For cats, I would not use any vegetable or dairy, just the meat and eggs. (Cats have less tolerance for plant and dairy foods than dogs. Dogs don't really need it, but they can tolerate it, and some people believe they do get some nutrition from it.)
You can also put down raw chicken wings/thighs (bone included) or chopped raw beef, either as meals or treats, in addition to the mixed food. My little 7lb pup can devour a whole chicken wing- meat, skin, bones and all- in a matter of minutes, he loves it! Raw bones aren't dangerous for dogs or cats, provided they are large enough not to be swallowed whole, and small enough that the animal can in fact eat them and won't break any teeth trying (large soup bones, for example, are not good).
Mixed batches of food can be separated into meal-sized portions and frozen for easy storage. Just thaw and serve. Is it safe to feed my dogs/cats a raw food diet, and does anyone have any simple recipes?
Yes I do. I have one cat who only gets canned food on the weekends now (just because...)
So long as you take proper precautions it's the best diet for cats and probably dogs as well.
I don't use recipes because I follow the whole prey model.
HOW TO GET STARTED FEEDING RAW
This blog is not intended to serve as your one-stop-shop for raw feeding. But hopefully it'll help you focus on what you need to decide and give you ideas of where to look for more info. I personally chose to feed ground whole prey so I do not supplement (except for a bit of extra taurine, fish oil and probiotics). I still serve some canned food for variety and likely will always have some on hand. I am feeding just chicken at the moment, but will be adding turkey and rabbit, and perhaps other meats when they become available.
(This ground meat does nothing for their teeth, so I also give the girls 1" or so pieces of raw chicken neck to chew on.)
So you've decided to feed raw. What's next?
It's actually pretty simple. You need to find a supplier. You need to decide on a method (ground, whole, etc.) You need to decide which meats to use. You need to know whether you need to supplement, and if you do, what supplements to use. And most importantly, you need to get your cat to eat it.
1. Finding a supplier.
A. Find a local supplier. If you're in the midwest, I recommend Taylor Pond Farms. I buy my meat from them and it couldn't be easier. They deliver every month and you can either pick it up at a dropoff point or have it delivered to your door. www.taylorpondfarms.com. They also have Yahoo groups for specific areas (http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=tay鈥?/a> You can also join http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/rawme鈥?/a> http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/Carni鈥?/a> http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/Whole鈥?/a> and look through their list of links.
B. Buy online. One site used by many is www.hare-today.com. There are many other sites; the WholeCatHealth links above will help you find them.
C. Buy meat at the grocery store. Your choices will be limited but if all you're going to feed is chicken, that's fine. Just be sure that the meat is hormone and antibiotic free - or organic.
UPDATE: I found a local distributor for Hare-Today. Not exactly sure what that means, but it may come in handy someday. Lori A. Randall, N7431 Meadowlark Road, Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, 53085, 920.467.3717, tessera@excel.net.
2. Choosing a method.
A. Whole prey. This may be either meat, bones and organs all ground together, or it may be chunks of meat and whole bones and organs. With this method you do not need to supplement. Your cat will be eating a properly balanced meal.
B. Just meat. Again, this can be either chunks of meat or it can be ground. If you do not include bones and organs, you will need to add supplements to ensure that the meals are complete and balanced.

3. Supplements. If you've chosen to serve meat without organs/bones, you will need to add supplements. There are a few different ways to do this. You can purchase a ready-made supplement such as Instincts TC (http://www.felinefuture.com/) or Wysong's Call of the Wild (http://www.wysong.net/page/WOTTPWS/PROD/鈥?/a> Or you can put together your own mixture. There are tons of recipes out there. One example is here (http://www.catnutrition.org/foodmaking.p鈥?/a> One of the raw feeding groups is dedicated to one particular supplement: (http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/felin鈥?/a>
4. Meats. Most meats are appropriate but you may want to avoid pork. The most commonly used meat is chicken. My vet suggested feeding a variety, so my choices are chicken, turkey and rabbit. If it becomes available I'll also try venison. Lamb and duck were rejected. It'll be up to you and your cat what to feed.
5. Converting your cats. If you've got a kibble junky on your hands, it might be easier to first convert him or her to canned food, and then try the raw. This has been a tried and true method for many including myself. Once the cats are happily eating canned food, start slipping a bit of meat into it. Just a speck to start with. Gradually increase that amount. If the cat balks, back down a bit but keep at it.
When you're ready to try it alone, you may need bribes. Raw meat has little scent so it can be helpful to add something stinky your cat likes. Crush some kibble and sprinkle it over the top. Try fish or liver flakes, parmesan cheese, a drop of soy sauce, meaty baby food (with no added onion or garlic), whatever it takes.
Note that you do not have to start with canned. You may be able to toss down a hunk of chicken and your cat will devour it. You never know until you try.
If you join any or all of the above groups, you'll find many more tips as well.
Patience and perseverence is the key. I was surprised at how readily Poppy took to the chicken after being on canned food for a year, but Sophie who is not normally picky has been resisting. What she doesn't know is that she's getting a bit of chicken along with her Wellness. (NOTE: Mushier canned foods may do better to hide the meat than the denser varieties such as Instincts).
Last but not least - relax! If you're researching this you may become overwhelmed at the tons of info out there, and all the conflicting opinions about what is best. What you need to do is choose the method that will work for YOU and your cats. And while it is important that your cat eat a balanced diet, it is not the end of the world if you don't get it exactly right, or if you forget to add a supplement one day. As my vet said, do you eat a balanced diet every day?
.......... i don't suggest it but i do know a good cat/dog food store bought dry food it's called Iams.catalytic converter

Yes, it is safe and if you do it right it is very healthy. All of my dogs are on a raw diet- as well as my cat :) Here are some links to get you started:

The raw food diet recipes?
this website has a lot of raw recipes...pu the word raw in the search engine there..

Raw dog food recipes?
I need recipes, not ratios or percentages. I need an all-in-one balanced meal, too.
Thanks. :)Raw dog food recipes?
i do brown rice cooked in low sodium chicken broth with skinless cooked chicken with smashed in broccoli or carrots.
potatoes baked or boiled with beef whether it be gound, chopped, cubed with a dallop of low fat cottage cheese and peas or carrots (i smash everything together in layers)
rule of thumb when cooking for your dog is not pork. anything in moderation like a treat but no pork for them as a meal. www.wysong.net is my favorite holistic dog food they also sell powder shakers for you to add to your home cooked meals to make sure the dogs are getting all the nutrients they need. good luck I bet you will have a super happy dog;)Raw dog food recipes?
there's no "all in one" recipe.. the only way to do that would be to measure out bone meal, organs and meat and grind it up together.. which kind of defeats half the purpose of the diet. Dogs need to be able to strip the meat from the bones to eat it.
now if your dog is large enough to get whole prey every day, thats another option.. but Im talking like a pyrenese dog getting a whole chicken carcass.. with all the meat bones and organs... but even thats not a complete diet either.. he still needs larger bones from larger prey to strip meat from the bones.
Raw diets are done best if you provide your dog a variety of parts, bones, organs, etc.. some dogs may require more bonier peices than others.. its abit of trial and error to find the right balance for YOUR dog Variety is the key.
I get whole "fryer" chickens, butcher them up to appropriate sized peices, and that consists of my dog's main diet. Once or twice a week he gets a beef rib to strip.. and about every 10 days or so, he gets a meal of organs.. (some people prefer to feed a small amount of organs daily, as some dogs cannot tolerate a meal of nothing but organs). I plan to use some other meats on occasion, such as turkey, deer, etc.. but I find that chicken works best for my small dog, its easy to get, easy for him to eat, and a while chicken provides a variety of body parts, so I know he is getting some kind of balance to the meat to bone.Raw dog food recipes?
recipes?
there really isn't anything you do to it. it's just... that... i get a chicken cut it in half and hand it over to my dog.. that's it...
however
my dog eats.
half a chicken twice a day with zucchini right now.
next week he will be eating
chicken and turkey in the same day on most days except on wednesdays he gets his fish meal, (mackaral) five days a week he gets one whole egg with shell, and with each meal he gets 1/4cup of vegetables. he also gets 1 lb of chicken livers per week.. i mean.. wow okay i'm stopping right here.
.......there's really A LOT MORE research you need to be doing if you are going to feed your dog raw, what is balanced for one dog may not be balance for your dog.
i fear you have not researched raw feeding enough.
"recipes" can include
chicken, turkey, beef, oxtail, pork, fish, kangaroo, rabbit, venison ETC.....
the list goes on and on
you need, bone meals, muscle meat, organ meat, and how much of which....
ADD: to farmgirl... um.. there is NO COOKING in RAW feeding and CERTAINLY NO RICE.
each meal or whatever should specifically catered to your dog, and it all goes based on weight. what my dog eats may and probably is way too much for your dog.Raw dog food recipes?
There are no "recipies" - raw is..raw, and is percentage based. 80/10/10 - 80% meat, 10% bone 10% organ. If you feed 1lb/day, 80 percent of that is meat - the other 20% is bone/organ. I should also add, that it is 2 - 4% of your dog's body weight daily. And this has wiggle room for adjustment. It is individual, based on YOUR dog - weight, activity, etc, so no set in stone recipies.
