Join a Yahoo! raw feeding group.

RESEARCH- read everything you can.

There are several different ways to raw feed. I do not BARF feed. I use a primarily prey model feeding plan supplemented by high quality kibble given as treats/training aids and household leftovers.

Yes, I have found it to be less expensive. It actually makes my own food bill less as I strip chicken breasts from whole chicken carcasses for human use (I count this as a free human meal). Right now, whole chicken is on sale in my area at 67 cents a lb.

My butcher saves me raw game bones. My friends save me game hearts/livers. My FIL gives me his fish catch or he bags up the entrails/heads for me to freeze. If I actually hunted it would be even less expensive- When I lived in an area with a high road kill venison issue and a lot of mushers (dogsled) the DNR kept a list of people who wanted fresh road-kill venison for their dogs.

I feed about 8-10 lbs of meat to 390 lbs of dogs on average. My dogfood bill runs about $220 right now (up substantially as I'm feeding 2 Bernese pups). Feeding them a high quality kibble would probably top out at over $300 a month.

A freezer is a necessity so you can buy meat on sale.

Edit: Contrary to what the person above said- the BEST time to start raw feeding is with a puppy. Raw feeding requires a wider variety of digestive enzymes than feeding kibble- Because of this, raw fed dogs who have adjusted to eating raw meat are less likely to get diarrhea due to diet change. With kibble fed dogs, many digestive enzymes simply stop being produced due to lack of use. Pups brought up eating raw or a combination of raw and kibble have stronger immune systems in my opinion and are less likely to be prone to diarrhea with diet change. Can anyone give me some cheap raw dog food recipes? ?
try and Type good dog food recipes on to the INTERNET
cheap and raw are two words that don't go together...but you could try a holistic dog food or all natural...like California Naturals or Innova

I hope someone can shed some light on this for you better than me...but meat is not cheap

Going with the all natural or holistic dog food is cheapest in the long run.

commercial dog food appears cheap but really isn't you buy twice as much and spend more than that

Stay away from the grocery store junk and you should be fine (bad foods: Punina, Pedigree, Iams, Eukanuba, Science Dieet, Ol Roy, Alpo) (these brands almost killed my dog and he is just now a year old)

Good Foods: California Naturals, Innova, Natural balance, Wellness, Merrick, Diamond, Taste of the Wild, Blue Buffalo, Canadae, Kirklands brand (if you have a costco), Orijin

Raw is good but be prepared to spend some money. For my two dogs we get a 20 lb bag of California Natural and it lasts around 3 months the bag costs us about 23 dollars

I hear its better to wait until they are adults anyways to start raw right now they need a puppy formula and as long as you stay away from grocery store brands they will be fineCan anyone give me some cheap raw dog food recipes? ?
Drive out country roads...pick up(relatively fresh)road kill....skin it %26amp; toss into the pen.
Buy them some dog food, because "cheap raw dog food" might be harmful to them.

And if you didn't think you were going to spend a lot of money on these dogs, think again! Taking care of dogs is a lot of work (especially 2 dogs).

I say you should return the dogs. You clearly don't have enough money to take care of them. Can anyone give me some cheap raw dog food recipes? ?
OK, I'll share what I typically give to my dogs, I should point out that it is more expensive SHORT term, but long term it is shown you will run into less health problems.

One of my dogs LOVES yoghurt (lactose free since dogs are intolerant, but I have read somewhere that all yoghurt becomes lactose free during the making process) with berries, either strawberries or blueberries are my dogs favourites.

Another of my dogs likes a broth/soup that I make, I mix premium or diet mince, pumpkin, sweet potato, peas, broccoli, and carrot together then add it to a pot full of water (optional you can add chicken broth as well) let it simmer until all is mushy and cooked. Then you have the choice of blending it to create a soup or just serving it chunky.

You can make a big batch then store it in containers, freeze them, then pull them out as you need it.

And my other dog really likes some Innova canned dog food (he is a puppy so I use that one), chicken breast (NO bones) and some kibble (preferably Innova or another brand) to eat.

For snacks and treats you can use carrot that is peeled and chopped, most dogs like that and it also prevents diorrhea and constipation.

Those are my ideas, good luck!

(P.S I also buy dog vitamin pills, which you can crush up and sprinkle in with their food if it is a nice flavour (like garlic)).

EDIT: Anyone who says it is bad to feed puppies or any dog raw food is wrong, in the wild that is what they would've eaten and "dog" food was only created due to a surplus of cheap nasty meat that had to be used in some way and people that that it was the most profitable way, making dog food.
