Homemade Dog food and treats?

I have been looking around online and ws thinking that maybe a good homemade recipe would be the way to go.

What do you think?

Have you done this?

Heres a little info

You basically cook and puree ingiedients and work into a dough and bake it for kibbles.

A basic formula for a homemade diet would be 50 percent protein, 25 percent vegetables (ground so they are easy to digest), and 25 percent grain (such as rice and oatmeal). Add to that some supplements of certain vitamins, minerals, and oils rich in omega-3 for healthy skin and coat.

There are certain foods you want to avoid, such as fatty meats, cured meat, (sausage, bacon, hot dogs), any fried foods and raw pork. You also want to avoid any milk, cream, ice cream, pastries, white bread, sugary foods, grapes, raisins and onions. Also, keep in mind that anything you consider to be junk food would not be good for your dog.

Healthy foods to give your dog would include raw or cooked lean cuts of meat: beef, poultry, lamb, whitefish and fatty fish (like salmon). Also included in a healthy diet are cooked grains, eggs (raw or cooked), finely chopped or ground raw vegetables (remember, no onions), and bits of fruit (again, remember to give your dog no raisons or grapes).

Would you try it?

I think I'm going to try baking treats....Homemade Dog food and treats?
Suggestions:

It's much more simple to just feed them raw. Search for bones and raw food (barf). Doughs usually contain things such as flour or wheat, that can be main ingredients that are not helpful for dogs. Most are allergic to wheat and this is what causes fur to fall out.

So my suggestion is stick with the raw.. stay away from the grains. But you do still need to puree the vegetables. Chopping does very little other than give your hand a workout. So puree them - otherwise the critters don't absorb much in to their systems. Also - anything you cook is less nutritional than if you left it raw.

There's recipes for treats.. that are super healthy like liver treats.. cooked and cut to bite size pieces.. our pup loves those. We also do things like dried fruits.. she loves banana chips. They're good for her and very convenient (not messy).

You mention salmon. Pacific NW Salmon .. I believe it is.. contains a parasite that is very bad for pooches. We feed ours fish such as sardines or tilapia.

Raw eggs and all that is superb. The entire egg.. shell and all. Yada yada yada.. our dog likes duck the most.. I'm not sure why, but she's in love with poultry.

Look into tripe. This is a great thing for them.

I am with you on the milk, cream, etc. Moms only lactate for so long - there's a good reason for that. ... and actually any dairy if you ask me.. bad for humans and pets. In my opinion, there's no reason to have to include any dairy.

I have a friend who owns st. benards and refuses to feed them anything unnatural to their systems. She makes a crock pot full of meat and veggies and grains on a weekly basis and feeds them all. They are very healthy and it costs about the same to make as it does to buy regular dog food.Homemade Dog food and treats?
