Need a dog food recommendation. ?

Ok, my dog was just hospitalized for 5 days with intestinal damage created by beat pulp in his Timberwolf dog food. Hence, I am looking for a new food. I looked at Orijen, which everyone says is good. But it contains psyllium (or what we call Metamucil). So that doesn't work.

My dog had a near fatal allergy to corn, wheat and soy. So that rules out a lot of foods. And now I have to avoid the beats too. So what do I do.

Please do not recommend the raw food diet as I have 2 young babies who are often around my dog's food (hence that would be completely unsafe).

I am willing to home cook if needed, but I just need a good recipe or advice. The vet has given me just lamb/chicken and rice thus far, but said I should try to find a good food that fits his needs.

Any advice? Need a dog food recommendation. ?
Sounds like you need to put your dog on a completely grain-free diet.

Try

Innova EVO (Turkey/Chicken large bites formula):

Turkey, chicken, turkey meal, chicken meal, potatoes, herring meal, chicken fat, natural flavors, egg, apples, tomatoes, potassium chloride, carrots, vitamins, garlic, cottage cheese, minerals, alfalfa sprouts, ascorbic acid, dried chicory root, direct-fed microbials, vitamin E supplement, lecithin, rosemary extract.

or

I've had a number of conversations lately with folks "in the know" who highly recommend Wellness. You could also try looking at the six-starred dog foods at the site listed below in my source. Orijen is among them, but there may be others that do not contain psyllium.

All the best with your little guy - I hope he's feeling better.
Okay, I feel like a moron, but I am not sure if rice is wheat.

If it isn't, I would recommend California Natural dog food. It was made for dogs with food sensitivities, and the food has very few ingredients. Here is a link to the chicken formula (it also comes in lamb):

You could try Wellness Core, Call Of The Wild or Diamond... here's a link that should help you check out many of the foods..

Best of luck to you and your pooch too!
There's a green tripe you can cook and give to your dog, it apparently is good for dogs with allergy's. Ask the vet about it.Need a dog food recommendation. ?
Go to the link below. It will tell you the all ingredients. Probably a 5 or 6 rating would be your best bet.

Mastiff Mommy, did you mean Canidae? Never heard of Canidea. Anyway, we use Canidae, it's an excellent food.
We have been using Merrick now for quite some time, and we are very pleased with the results from it.
Ok- First WOW! Sorry about your baby- I hope he is better soon, second- My dog Titus is very allergic to corn, so I feed him Canidea.. It's mostley protien.. He loves it.. And I buy it in 44 lb sacks for about $50. I know nothing about feeding raw. sorry. But you can go on here:http://www.canidae.com/dogs/all_life_sta鈥?/a>

This is the bag I feed my kids..

I cannot believe such a expensive and suposed to be"great food" caused this- very irritating.. You should contact the food company

Add: They also have a grain free version.. non of their foods have beets:)

Good luck
Wow, I'm sorry to hear about your dog, Timberwolf is recommended by our rescue as a good quality food, I'll have to keep that in mind for future reference. Have you considered Innova EVO? It doesn't contain beets or tomato Pomace, it does include tomatoes, does that rule it out?

INNOVA EVO:

Ingredients:

Turkey, chicken, turkey meal, chicken meal, potatoes, herring meal, chicken fat, natural flavors, egg, apples, tomatoes, potassium chloride, carrots, vitamins, garlic, cottage cheese, minerals, alfalfa sprouts, ascorbic acid, dried chicory root, direct-fed microbials, vitamin E supplement, lecithin, rosemary extract.

The first four ingredients in this food are all named meat products. The first two are meat inclusive of water content (about 80%) and once that is removed it is likely that these ingredients would be more accurately placed somewhat further down the ingredient list (ingredients are listed in order of weight). However, since it is followed by two meat meal ingredients, and a further meat meal ingredient, herring meal, sixth on the ingredient list. This, and strong macronutrient breakdown give very high confidence in the level of meat content of the food.

This is an entirely grainless dog food. The major carbohydrate source is potatoes, which are also a good source of B vitamins and other minerals. There is a good range of fruits/vegetables in the food, whole eggs and a good range of probiotics.

This food is outstanding in that it contains no grains whatsoever. Grains are not a natural part of a canine diet and it is pleasing to see dog foods on the market that exclude grains completely from the diet. This is a far more natural food concept and combined with a complete lack of any low quality or controversial ingredients is the reason this food is placed in a class above the more conventional form dry dog foods.

The only caution we would make on this food is that the high protein and calcium content may make it suitable for adult dogs only, particularly in the case of large breeds.

I feed my dog Pinnacle Trout %26amp; Sweet Potato, it's only rated 3 stars but it's better for her than Eukanuba or Iams and she does well on it for her stomach, it contains no grains and is 100% allergen free. Pinnacle also does a Duck %26amp; Potato formula which is 4 star rated and it doesn't contain Tomato Pomace, Tomatoes or beets maybe that is an option for you.

PINNACLE DUCK %26amp; POTATO:

Ingredients:

Duck Meal, Potatoes, Oatmeal, Duck, Oat Flour, Potato Fiber, Canola Oil (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Toasted Oats, Flax Seed, Quinoa, Grapeseed Oil, Lecithin, Rosemary, Sage, Papain, Dried Lactobacillus Acidophilus Fermentation Product, Dried Bifidobacterium Bifidum Fermentation Product, Dried Bacillus Subtilis Fermentation Product, Dried Bacillus Licheniformis Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus Lactis Fermentation Product, Potassium Chloride, Calcium Carbonate, Choline Chloride, Zinc Oxide, Zinc Amino Acid Chelate, Iron Sulfate, Vitamin A Acetate, Vitamin D3, Manganous Oxide, Vitamin E Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Copper Sulfate, Manganese Amino Acid Chelate, Copper Amino Acid Chelate, Riboflavin, Niacin, Calcium Pantothenate, Folic Acid, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, d-Biotin, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite, Cobalt Carbonate.

Good luck I hope you are able to find something for him.
