We ran out of dog food...?

We ran out of dog food again, we called to order more (we have to order it from the feed store) the guy said he would order it, then we called to see when it would be in, now that were out, only to find out he never ordered it! so they said there not sure when it will be in.. Gah! This is the second time this has happened! We've been feeding them Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul Adult Formula. So now were totally out, last night i made some plain white rice, with a chicken breast cooked into it. Which of course the dogs really enjoyed, but i feel this isn't a very complete meal. I'm hoping the food will come in tomorrow, but i fear it may not be until next Monday. So i need to figure out what to feed them until then. What else can i add to this rice chicken mix to make it more complete? things i thought of might be eggs (hard boiled maybe?) Carrots, frozen veggies, or canned pumpkin (i give them pumpkin when there stomach is upset and they love it) We also have plain oatmeal maybe that would be better than rice? or mixed with the rice? I really have no idea,

I'm not sure what else we have that might be good to add, we might be able to go buy some more veggies or something tonight, if my fiance doesn't have to work too late. What else might be a better meal? I haven't really had time to look into feeding a raw diet, but i have considered it many times, especially since its so hard to find good dog food here. If anyone has some basic dog food recipes, hopefully ones that don't call for a lot of fancy ingredients, because we live in a small town and only have a basic grocery store. We ran out of dog food...?
boiled chicken and rice is good and you can even throw some peas and carrots in there. My pup loves it.Why not just order 2wks in advance so that if something like this happens again you at least have time to corret any mistakes and can still have his food to you on timeWe ran out of dog food...?
The chicken and rice is totally healthy for the dogs...I'd just stick with that
Why not just go to your grocery store and get a bag of the generic to hold you over until the new stuff comes in?We ran out of dog food...?
my dog loves scrambled egg

plus we give it to her when she runs out of food

but if your dogs eat more then that then you can give them any kind of meat-fish,steak,chicken

put if you feed them fruits make sure they dont eat grapes!!!
Boiling chicken and the rice is really good for dogs...just dont season them! This would be fine for tem to eat until their food comes in!We ran out of dog food...?

Of course there are hundreds of treat recipes if you want also.
Instead of cooking the chicken (and destroying the protein in it) just hand it to your dog raw. All the rice will do is bulk up the poop and add unnecessary carbohydrates (which your dog can't digest) to the diet. The carrots, frozen vegies and pumpkin are good for you but offer no nutritional benefit for your dog.

Do some research on raw diets - RMB or prey model not BARF - try it out for a month and you will never feed commercial crap in a bag ever again.

Feeding your dog (or yourself) is not rocket science and NO animal eats a 'complete and balanced diet' in every meal. The idea is to achieve balance over time. If you aim to feed over a fortnight about 2/3 meat and the rest a combination of meaty bones and organs your dog will thrive!!
I would suggest going to a local pet store or grocery store and looking for a food that has the closest ingredients that you can find to what you normally feed your dog, and buy some. This would also be good information to know in case this happens again. Much time goes into learning the specific nutritional needs for dogs. They are different than our needs.

Also, although white rice is very good for a dog with an upset stomach, it has little to no nutritional value.
Chicken and rice is not a good permenant diet, you are correct about that, but it is just fine for a few days. I wouldn't go adding a bunch of stuff they're not used to b/c that's how you'll end up with belly aches.
This is a great question and you should do your research very carefully! Everyone is going to have their opinion but that does not mean it is the right food for your dog. I just lost my seven year old German Shephard to cancer and that is when I went searching for the cause. I came across a website on the internet that shocked me into disbelief that I probably had poisoned my dog to death and didn't even know it. Most dog foods are loaded with hidden poisons and other obsenities I still have a hard time grasping. I am going to give you the website address so you can read this report and learn what is really in commercial dog foods and you can make an educated decision like I did on which dog food to buy! I wish you all the best!

just buy one bag of a different brand,, that won't be the end of the world,,,, geez
You make it.

If all else fails, try eBay.
