is it really cheaper? can anyone give me some tips for finding meat (that wont cost and arm and a leg for just a few days of food) and recipes?

If you feed raw food and canned food/dry food, don't feed it at the same time. They digest at different rates and the raw meat staying too long in the intestines can cause bacteria to grow.
Excellent source of info on raw feeding for beginners is www.rawfedcats.org. That's where I started. It's good to talk to your local butcher about scraps and options, to find good wuality meat at good price.Info on raw feeding cats?
Keep an eye on your ads, I can usually find 10lbs of chicken hindquarters for .50cents a pound. Usually. I buy as much as they will allow when I do.
Craigslist ads. I post in the wanted section for freezer burned meat, I'll pay .50cents a pound for it. I get MOST of my meat this way.
With 3 cats and a dog, I average about $20 a month.
Some do feed raw and kibble, I don't and wouldn't be able to advice.

I would recommend that you give the cat commercial food, like Purina, but you can also give it raw meat as a treat. i wouldn't give it too often, because it can harbor bacteria and the cat could throw it up. I give my cats the canned chunky food with the bagged kibble food. there are a ton of types of canned foods, wich are better for you cat and cheaper than raw meats. you can even choose your favorite flavor!
