How long do I soak dates for a recipe?

I am making a raw food torte, and the recipe calls for a cup of dates pitted and soaked. How long do I soak the dates?ThanksHow long do I soak dates for a recipe?
Oh dear. For a second there, I misread the beginning of your question...

Anyway, when soaking raisins or dates or other dried fruit, typically the warmer the water, the shorter the soaking time. (But unless the recipe calls for boiling water, avoid it. Of course, then the dates wouldn't be raw, would they?)

Most recipes call for soaking raisins for a couple of hours or overnight. However, dates soaking times seem to be in the 5 minute to 30 minute range. It probably depends on what you want to do with the dates after they are soaked. Will they be chopped? Mashed? Pureed? Will they be a filling or a garnish? Anyway, the more liquid the results should be, the longer you should soak the dates. How long do I soak dates for a recipe?
It depends how well you get along with the date. If the two of you fight most of the time, try soaking each other. How long do I soak dates for a recipe?
