Hey I have a 10 mo. old Great Dane who has had allergies issues since he was 4 mo. after ruling out every common allergy and several hundred dollar later. It was decided he has a food allergy to certain proteins. Which one we don't know yet. he has been put on a vegetarian diet by our vet and I began feeding him Dr.Harvey's Canine health 2 wks. ago. But I'm not sure what he needs to keep him health. Without a protein source like chicken or turkey he acts like he's starving all the time. I give him beans or tofu as a protein source and several oils but I really need to know a good recipe to feed him daily using the canine health that is balanced and keeps him full. He's fed twice a day around 3-4 cups each feeding. ThanksRaw Food Diet recipe for a Great Dane?
A vegetarian diet?! Good lord, I hope the vet wasn't intending this as a long-term thing. No carnivore can thrive on that.
Many dogs that are allergic to certain cooked proteins (e.g. chicken, beef) are not allergic to the same proteins raw. So I would not discount those immediately.
A proper raw diet consists of 80% meat, 10% bone, and 10% organ. Dogs eat 2-3% of their ideal adult body weight daily, and for puppies this amount should be split into several meals. Large and giant breeds, such as your Dane, usually do quite well on the lower side, so 2% should be fine.

Research a Raw diet. There are many forums online where people will help you and give you knowledgeable advise. You will start him off on a chicken protein.
My chihuahua has allergies also. He ia on a Raw diet. There are many advantages: smaller, less poos that dry quickly and don't smell; no "doggy" odor; less expensive; the food is easy to find wherever we go; and, the dogs are more satisfied.Raw Food Diet recipe for a Great Dane?
Of course he's going to act starving, dogs don't really digest plant matter well at all.
General guideline for a raw diet (which is great for allergies) is 80% meat 10% edible and 10% organs half of which is liver.
Start him on bone in chicken for a few weeks and then slowly add in organs and other proteins. You want to feed him 2-3% of his expected adult size each day. Watch his is body condition and adjust a little up or down from there.
Quartered up whole chickens, or even half chickens would be a good start for him.
