Consider the fact that many experts believe commercial dog food is actually unhealthy for dogs. Often the meat that is used in dog food is of a quality considered unfit for humans.
Try making a mixture of ground turkey, rice and carrot for your own dog food. Meals made of ground beef, brown rice, brewer's yeast and carrots are also popular.
Rotate the foods you feed your dog so that the dog gets a variety of foods.
Use oatmeal, pasta, rice or potatoes for your dog's starch requirement.
Keep cooked dog food in the refrigerator no longer than three days. Can any one tell me some good homemade puppy food recipes?
Home cooking for your dog is not a matter of cooking meat, veggies, rice, etc. and putting them in your dog food bowl. You need to know the nutritional values of everything you put into his/her dish in order for your puppy to grow up healthy .
Go to www.monicasegal.com/catalog/productindex鈥? and buy her pamphlet called Cooked Diet Recipes. It is only $7.95 and all the spreadsheets have been done and figured out so you do not have to worry about whether or not a diet is balanced correctly. Monica has written several books on canine nutrition and her latest is in use at a Veterinary School.
Do not, for your dogs sake, listen to those who tell you to simply throw a raw bone, some veggies, no grains at your dog and consider it balanced. It isn't and the dog will suffer as it gets into old age from lack of specific vitamins and minerals in that kind of diet. Can any one tell me some good homemade puppy food recipes?
Raw diets are a lot easier to do than home cooked. With home cooked you have to add a lot of supplements because cooking the meat destroys nutrients. Which also means it s more expensive because you have to buy the supplements and its more time consuming because you have to cook it. Do lots of research on home cooked. You need to figure out how to make it balanced.
Why don't you want to feed raw?
6 weeks is too young to be away from his mother,he needs supplemental milk while being weaned into dry food.
